Application of Project Management

Our seminars are designed to share knowledge and to build a cohesive team-based organization that will be highly adaptable to change. We offer this training commercially to individuals, but also as part of a corporate training program where there is an opportunity to build team cohesion as we explore the different aspects of project management. Some training is general in nature; other training is specific to a particular focus area. In order to cater to different project manager needs we offer many areas to choose from (and you are not limited to focusing on project management either). The programs we have available in our affiliate relationship with seminar providers include the following workshops and training programs: note that we indicate PDUs (Professional Development Units) that represent contact hours focused on a project management subject that you can also use to maintain your PMP credentials. You may be able to claim similar educational credits for other professional development depending on the nature of the course. Since our courses are not PMI specific we report the duration in contact hours.

We offer these courses in two different settings: public seminars are organized from time to time, with a proviso that we get enough individual candidates to make it worthwhile renting the facilities to present that seminar. The cost to the individual is indicated for all, or part, of the program (depending on where a multi-session program has optional sessions or not). The corporate cost is charged for delivering that program based on the assumption that the facilities are provided by the client (boardroom, etc.): there is also an option to provide off-site facilities for an additional rental fee depending on the location, and/or travel to a destination venue.

Project Management Basics       PMAP_BM1

This is the first phase of a concentrated program that is equivalent a conventional college course to introduce the basics of project management. The first session (BM1) is designed as a stand-alone introduction seminar to explain the nature of project management as a tool for people who are faced with a unique assignment in an otherwise routine business environment. It is also useful for people with extensive work experience in the trades or other endeavors that may consider a change in focus away from physical labour. However, if you are planning to take the full training course then you are advised to look at PMAP-PMB following.

  • This course can be adapted to (an) in-depth tutorial workshop(s) on project management for senior managers and executives that want a better handle on the project management process.

Project Management Basics       PMAP_PMB

This is a full program in 4-phases concentrated program that is equivalent a conventional 36 hours college course to introduce the basics of project management: also, the first session is designed as a stand-alone introduction seminar to introduce the nature of project management as a career for people with extensive work experience shown above as PMAP-BP1. This short course can be adapted to (an) in-depth tutorial workshop(s) on project management for senior managers and executives that want a better handle on the project management process and get some hands-on experience in the process. This full course is intended for people that are seriously contemplating a project management career and want to see (at a high level) the complete program from beginning to end.

Basic Project Management       PMAP_BPM

Interested in the details of what project managers do? This course is an extension of what we covered in the previous course: we provide more hands-on training and feedback, so there is more interaction and less lecturing as reflected in allowing much more time to complete this course. If you want a less intensive course then click the PMAP_PMB course summary.

This course comes with a guidebook that is intended as an introduction to basic project management: not in terms of theory, but with actual hands-on experience in what it takes to run a project so that you can apply that knowledge immediately. This guidebook shows how to use a basic project management tool based on Excel™: this tool is available free with the course so you can use BPM on your projects if you have Excel™ on your PC. We also separated the course material from user documentation of the BPM software so you can refer to a handy guide when you focus on projects instead of learning project management.

KISS (Keep It Simple Scheduling)       PMAP_KIS

This guide introduces the principles of project management by means of a simple Excel™-based tool and fundamental methodology. The goal is to make it easy to manage projects in any field of business, from basic Information Technology to small construction projects or business improvement initiatives, and to master the concepts defined in PMI-PMBoK™ standards used for project management world-wide. Small projects make it difficult to justify the effort required to implement complex project management tools, but with KISS anyone can create, schedule, and manage work initiatives using the project management paradigm for work in progress control and status reporting to keep things moving and in line with the approved statement of work. This project management is focused on business operations support that enables the implementation of technology projects.

SMART (Simply Messages, Actions & Results Tracking)       PMAP_SMA

SMART is an Executive Project Management Tool, designed to enable busy executives to stay on top of any number of projects: the key is to focus on what is important and to filter out the details that are part and parcel of a typical project. There is a growing need to embrace “project thinking” in business organizations everywhere, even as it may not actually translate into engaging professional project managers for every initiative that can benefit from “project thinking”. With our other tools you can still provide a SMART insight for Executives.

There may be major initiatives where project managers get involved that spawn change throughout the organization that is not managed with the same focus as that major initiative, which often results in a painfully prolonged transition process for adopting the results of that major initiative. The solution is not to impose standard projects on every spawned work effort but to facilitate that work effort with simple a monitoring tool that manages each “branch” of the larger initiative. This tool, SMART, can also be used to create a summary of detailed project plans to make reporting more digestible at different levels within an organization instead of making everyone learn sophisticated project management tools.
