PMP™ Exam & PMBoK™ In-depth Training       PMFP_PBK

This is a detailed review of the PMBoK™ so that participants get into the “zone” and ready to sit the exam. The boot-camp option is a tough immersion session that requires you to take a week off to fully concentrate on your studies, and we recommend that you take the exam as soon as possible after you have completed the study. The reason is that the exam is based on a particular paradigm of “PMI-speak” that you have to adopt even if your workplace uses similar terminology but different from the PMBoK™ usage, so you do not lose marks by trying to think (and inevitably think about your workplace context).

  • Note that this course includes a courtesy version of our PMP Exam Simulation to help you prepare for (and stay sharp for) the actual Prometric® exam. For more information check what this option has to offer as well.

The challenge is that PMP™ is a critical designation for project managers, and the pressure is on to get certified in order to advance in your career. It is easier to fall prey to this if you use a study group option and take several weeks to get ready while you work in between (sessions tend to be held on the weekends). If you do this, consider setting the exam for a Monday or Tuesday after finishing the course, so you can use the Excel™ exam simulator to immerse yourself in the PMBoK™ terminology and only take of one or two days. If you use the boot-camp option, think of a similar strategy to use the weekend to perform simulated exams to be ready for Monday.

  • For copyright reasons, you need a copy of the current version of the PMBoK™ manual – our learning guides are designed around its use with references and reading assignments, and the testing simulation is based on the exact content of this manual. We also recommend that you take out a PMI membership as well as membership in a local chapter – you get a discount on taking the PMP exam that about covers that membership.

Don’t forget to consult the PMI website to make sure you qualify for the exam based on a degree and/or prior hands-on experience. Take out a membership with PMI in advance of the sessions, because you can get a discount on the Prometric exam based on PMI membership. Your course provides sufficient study-hours to qualify for the PMI prior training requirements. (5 – 7 years of experience, 35 training hours: that may change from time to time: before we complete your registration we make sure you have these prerequisites).

The objective of the PMP Exam Preparation course is to get the student in the frame of mind conducive to passing the Prometric test. To ensure the maximum effectiveness of this course students are asked to read the PMBOK guide prior to the review course, so that we can focus our training on mastering and recall required. Like most exams of this kind it is less focused on rationalizing the course materials with more emphasis on learning to interpret the questions in order to select the right answers. The tabs below show what chapters will be covered during the different sessions (each session typically 15 hours over 5 days with afternoons free for reviews, for a 3-weeks program):

01 Introduction = Overview of the guide to PMBOK that establishes the basic definition of a project and of project management, portfolio management, program management, and organizational management.

02 Organizational Influences and project life cycle = Overview of organizational influences, project stakeholders and governance, project team, and project life cycle.

03 Project Management Processes = Basic project management process interactions, project management process groups {initiating, planning, executing, monitoring + controlling, closing}, project information, role of the knowledge area, standards for project management.

04 Project Integration Management = Project charter, project management plan, direct and manage project work, monitor and control project work, integrated change control, close project or phase.

Please check the PMI website for eligibility requirements (5 – 7 years of experience, 35 training hours) that may change from time to time: before we complete your registration we make sure you have these prerequisites.

The exam is quite intensive – 200 questions in 4 hours does not allow much time to analyze the question and deduce the answers from the available options. The benefit of our training format is that we urge people to read the PMBOK first, and we encourage people to focus on PMBOK with the exam in mind – sometimes you have to forget what you do in practice and instead concentrate on providing the right answers in the time allowed. The boot camp is focused on testing practice, while the fast-track option incorporates a week to re-read parts of the PMBOK during the week in-between the review sessions. It is unlikely that you can master the PMBOK content simply by taking any short preparation course, while reviewing that material with an exam-taking mindset is the best preparation you can get.
